1 in 5 Brits have never participated in any outdoor recreation such as hiking or camping.

The leading factors for the low outdoor activity participation rate are a lack of awareness of places to go, perceived inexperience or fear of something going wrong.

Touch grass focuses on improving outdoor confidence by comparing hiking to a popular recreational activity in this age group. The project uses gaming to help reduce these anxieties by talking the user through planning and safely taking part in a hike. Both a web and print format for different stages of hiking.
For planning, accessibility is the focus, so a website is used to enable its users to quickly access the content and information. When hiking, practicality is considered, so a short publication was created to act as a troubleshooter that the user can read in the event of any issues, as this bypasses issues with a lack of internet connection.
